About the Author :

Anita Desai is an Indian novelist and Emeritus John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities. She was born to a German mother and a Bengali businessman in 1937. She is one of India`s foremost writers who has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, in 1978 for her novel, Fire on the Mountain. Author Anita Desai is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in London, the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York, Girton College and Clare Hall at the University of Cambridge. Anita Desai has also been a Professor of Writing at MIT and has frequently been honored with awards like the coveted Alberto Moravia Prize for Literature and the Padma Shri.
