100 Women Who Shaped World History

This is one of the few books in the juvenile non-fiction genre that conveys the underlying message in the most impeccable manner. It is an ideal book for girls as it depicts the power of women and how they helped change world history.

The most laudable aspect is the addition of the extraordinary achievements of ordinary women. It is not a predictable 'rags to riches' story or a tale about the lives of princesses. It talks of courageous women that chose to stand their ground and make a difference. The book traverses back in time to 1530 BC and talks of Queen Makare Hatshepsut and the narration culminates with the description of the achievements of Rigoberta Menchu. There is a trivia quiz and maps that help the reader know where the women lived. Many of these women may have been left out of academic history books and this adds to the appeal and distinction of this non fiction, for school- goers.
