Something peculiar is going on at the Group Medical Practice in Taviscombe. Sheila Malory can't help feeling it may have something to do with the unexpected arrival of Dr Morrison, whose alleged misdiagnoses of a local patient who later died have made him the focus of the rumor mill in Taviscombe. When Dr Morrison is found in his office, apparently murdered, evidence points to Rhys Hampden, the drug addicted son of a couple from the village and the last person to have seen Dr Morrison alive. However, Sheila is not convinced that this was simply a random act of violence.
