The Piazza Tales Book Description

Included in this Herman Melville collection are six tales that range considerably -- from "The Encantadas" (an allegorical travelogue) to the haunting "Bartleby, the Scrivener." Opening the volume is "The Piazza," a pastoral sketch that frames the collection. "Benito Cerenno" -- a subversive satire -- of grows out of a true story of mutiny among the enslaved . . .

About the Author :

Herman Melville has contributed to The Piazza Tales as an author. Born in New York City in 1819, Herman Melville died in 1891, at which point his work had been largely forgotten. He has since been recognized as one of America's greatest writers. His metaphysical whaling novel, Moby Dick, is one of literature's most enduring works of art. His shorter works, including Billy Budd, Bartleby, the Scrivener and Benito Cereno, are considered classics of the form.
