About the Author :

Jan Spivey Gilchrist has contributed to My America as an author. JAN SPIVEY GILCHRIST was a fine artist and art educator for nearly twenty years before she entered the children's book field in 1988, with the illustrations for Children of Long Ago. Since then she has illustrated more than fifty books for children. She has received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award for Nathaniel Talking, a collection of poems by Eloise Greenfield, and a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Award Honor for Night on Neighborhood Street, also by Greenfield.
