The Compositionality Papers Book Description

Ernie Lepore and Jerry Fodor have published a series of original and controversial essays on issues relating to compositionality in language and mind; they have now revised them all for publication together in this volume. Compositionality is the following aspect of a system of
representation: the complex symbols in the system inherit their syntactic and semantic properties from the primitive symbols of the system. Jerry A Fodor has contributed to The Compositionality Papers as an editor. Jerry A. Fodor is Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University and at the City University of New York Graduate Center. He is the author of "Modularity of Mind "and "RePresentations: Philosophical Essays on the Foundations of Cognitive Science."

Ernie Lepore has contributed to The Compositionality Papers as an editor. Herman Cappelen is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Vassar College and the University of Oslo. He has published extensively in philosophy of language and mind, including articles in "Nous," "Mind," "Mind & Language," "Analysis," and "Synthese,"

Ernie Lepore is Professor of Philosophy at Rutgers University. He is author of "Meaning and Argument" (revised edition, Blackwell, 2003) and, with Jerry Fodor, of "Holism" (Blackwell, 1991). He is editor of "Truth and Interpretation" (Blackwell, 1989), and co-editor, with Zenon Pylyshyn, of "What is Cognitive Science"? (Blackwell, 1999)
