Kuthumi, also known as Koot Hooni, was a Punjabi whose family had lived for years in Kashmir. He led a secluded life in Shigatse, Tibet. He founded the Theosophical Society in 1875 through Helena P. Blavatsky.

Kul, also known as D.K. and "The Tibetan", was the foremost disciple of Kuthumi and is said to have lived near his teacher in Tibet. He assisted El Morya and Kuthumi in their work with the Theosophical Society.
