Larry Bossidy is the retired chairman of the board and CEO of Honeywell International, a global $24 billion advanced technology, controls, and manufacturing company. He began his career at General Electric, where he served in a number of executive and financial positions, including COO of GE Capital, executive vice president and president of GE's Services and Materials Sector, and vice chairman and executive officer. In 1991 Mr. Bossidy joined AlliedSignal Inc. as chairman and CEO and merged the company with Honeywell in 1999.

  “Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done” by Larry Bossidy is an brilliant attempt of the author to discuss the qualities of a leader and how to be a good leader. This is among the very popular business books of the year 2002. The business leader play an important role in accomplishing organizational goals and hence success. He must be able to execute the plans and strategies well so that the maximum output can be achieved. The leader must make sure the plans are getting best results with the support of his subordinates towards the organization’s goal. Larry describes execution as a specific set of behaviors and techniques that companies need to master in order to have competitive advantage. It is a discipline of its own. Larry discusses the steps of processes in execution. Larry gives seven essential behaviours of the leader as follows: 1. Know Your People and Your Business. 2. Insist on Realism. 3. Set Clear Goals and Priorities. 4. Follow Through. 5. Reward the Performers. 6. Expand People's Capabilities through Coaching. 7. Know Yourself. Principles and illustrations are superb along with the clear writing of Larry. Larry tries to reshape the role of a leader in an organization and he successfully did that. I loved the book and it really helped me perform better at my work. This book will certainly provide you with some new ways of looking at the workplace. This is a very interesting and informative book for all leaders, professional, managers, administrators and management students.
