Reissued to coincide with the September Random House release of The Last Don, here is the sweeping saga of a family and of its leader, a friendly and reasonable man who just happens to be the deadliest gang leader in the Cosa Nostra.
a #1 New York Times bestseller. A classic american crime novel. An offer you can't refuse... Since its first publication in 1969, Mario Puzo's epic "The Godfather" has earned a permanent place in the American psyche and culture. In this story of family, loyalty, and the men who rule the American underworld, Puzo introduced a cast of singularly crafted characters, and offered an unforgettable look into the world of organized crime no writer has been able to duplicate since.
In this transaction, there were some initial hiccups due to seller's carelessness. He sent me a different book altogether. After I contacted Infibeam with the issue, I was asked to scan and send the cover of the book that I received. This sounded quite foolish to me. I can randomly send any soft copy to prove my case, if I want. So trust is the basic thing. My feedback is that if a customer comes with such a complaint, step should be taken for rectification. However, the fact that a courier person was sent home to collect the wrong book is something that impressed me. Sites like eBay ask customers to courier stuff on their own in such situations. I was extremely happy with the service at this stage.
I’ve had a copy of Mario Puzo’s Godfather and there’s much to write about it, but as this is just a brief review of the book, I’d rather get along with it. It’s been amongst the fastest selling books on the planet in the times it was launched way back in 1969 and has sold more than 21 million copies world wide. The Godfather movie was based on the novel, which was released in 1972. The book has also inspired two sequels to the original film, titled Godfather II and Godfather III. The book is about mafia controlled American society. The story revolves around Don Vito Corleone and his three sons Sonny, Freddy and Michael. He also has a daughter Connie. The book has several characters and they all are revealed in the sort of lengthy introduction that starts with the wedding scene of Connie. If you want to really get involved with a book, fall in love with it, get inspired and influenced by the characters, want to keep repeating the various phrases of the book a numerous number of times then the book you should read is Mario Puzo’s “The Godfather”. Set in the 1940’s, the story is riveting and powerful reminder of the Sicilian family organized crime that existed in the United States at that time. There are other rival groups in the book that oppose Don Corleone such as the Tattagialia family, the inner intricacies of organized crime in the United States, and the operations of tinsel destinations like Hollywood and Las Vegas. The book had an appealing touch. It was an edifying experience to read the book. On a personal note, the film version also captures the appeal of the book in a grand way.
Best selling international novel on crime and mafias by Mario Puzo. The story revolves around Corleone family. Don Vito Corleone is the head of a New York Mafias. He is quite happy with his hotel and gambling business. Another gangster Solozzo offers him to work as a partner in drug selling business. Don Vito refuses to do so. Don Vito is shot by Solozzo's men. Solozzo then kidnaps one of Don's advisors, Tom Hagen and tries to make him force Don's eldest son, Sonny to agree to sell drugs, but the plan goes wrong when Solozzo finds out that Don Corleone is still alive. Sonny is shot dead. Don’s youngest son Michael Corleone slays Solozzo with pistol. Finally, Don is dead due to heart attack. Then Michael takes control of the family and business and revenge on his enemies. This is a masterpiece by Mario Puzo. The suspense about the Don’s death is awesome. His writing had distinct style. This book has everything just like an perfect action movie like the mafias and their family, the domination, the fights, murder etc. This is easily one of the greatest books written in recent years.
