Joining forces with a watchdog named Tock, Milo drives through the tollbooth's gates and begins a memorable journey. He meets such characters as the foolish, yet lovable Humbug, the Mathemagician, and the not-so-wicked "Which," Faintly Macabre, who gives Milo the "impossible" mission of returning two princesses to the Kingdom of Wisdom.

Norton Juster is a practicing architect and professor of environmental design at Hampshire College. He is the author of a number of books, including The Phantom Tollbooth, The Dot and the Line and Alberic the Wise. He lives with his wife in a small rural community in western Massachusetts.
Jules Feiffer has contributed to The Phantom Tollbooth as an illustrator.
Jules Feiffer has won a number of prizes for his cartoons, plays, and screenplays, including the Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. His books for children include The Man in the Ceiling, A Barrel of Laughs, A Vale of Tears, I Lost My Bear, Bark, George, and Meanwhile... He lives in New York City. In His Own Words...
