About the Author(s):Ravindra Kumar obtained his B.Sc.(Honours) in 1962 and M.Sc. in 1964 from the Banaras Hindu University. He was awarded Ph.D. degree in 1969 by the Panjab University. Dr. Kumar has over 15 years of teaching and 20 years of research experience. He has to his credit 35 research papers published on various aspects of Himalayan Geology in national and international research journals. He was awarded UNESCO Fellowship (1974-75) for an advanced course in Regional Tectonics at the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute, U.S.S.R. He was subsequently deputed by the Government of India, Ministry of External Affairs to the Indian Cooperation Mission to Nepal to serve as Lecturer in Geology at the Tribhuban University, Kathmandu (1976-79). Dr. Kumar is at present Reader, Centre of Advanced Study in Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
