The Origins of Arab Nationalism Book Description

"The Origins of Arab Nationalism" contains the most recent revisionist scholarship on the rise of Arab nationalsim that began with the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

The various contributors, including C. Ernest Down, Mahmoud Haddad, Reeva Simon, and Beth Baron, provide an unusually broad survey of the Arab world at the turn on the century, permitting a comparison of developments in a variety of settings from Syria and Egypt to the Hijaz, Libya, and Iraq.

Reeva Spector Simon has contributed to The Origins of Arab Nationalism as an editor. Reeva Spector Simon is a research scholar at the Middle East Institute at Columbia University and coeditor of "The Jews of the Middle East and North Africa in Modern Times." She is also author of "Iraq Between the Two World Wars: The Militarist Origins of Tyranny" (Columbia).

Eleanor H. Tejirian is an associate research scholar at the Middle East Institute. She is coeditor (with Simon) of "Altruism and Imperialism: Western Religious and Cultural Missions in the Middle East."
