Robert Moorman Denhardt (1912-1989) was the leading authority on Quarter Horses. He edited Western Horsemen for many years and helped to establish the American Quarter Horse Association as the largest breed registry in the world. He was the author of Foundation Dams of the American Quarter Horse, Foundation Sires of the American Quarter Horse, The King Ranch Quarter Horses and Something of the Ranch and the Men That Breed Them, and Quarter Horses: A Study of Two Centuries, all published by the University of Oklahoma Press.
