This book is designed for undergraduate students of Electrical Engineering in accordance with the syllabus of Indian Universities/Institutions and for AMIE. The different matters are written in a manner and at a level that is easily accessible to the students. The text fully covers the basic theory of electrical machine design and also covers the computer aided design that may be of much interest to both students and design engineers.
The text presents the description of magnetic and insulating materials, heating and cooling of electrical machines and some concepts which are needed while designing the electrical machines. The steps required for conventional design of transformer, 3-phase alternator, 3-phase induction motor and d.c. machines are described in detail. The principle of computer aided design, analysis and synthesis methods, development of computer programmes to design a transformer, 3-phase alternator, 3-phase induction motor and d.c. machines are discussed. The standard specifications are also being provided.
Numerous solved examples, solved overall design problems, problems with short answers and unsolved problems are designed and presented to enhance reader`s understanding of the matters presented in the text.

He served as Faculty member in Electrical Engineering Department, College of Technology, G. B. Pant University, Pantnagar, India. He also served in Department of Power Wing of Ministry of Energy, Government of India, New Delhi. He visited Bangkok, Thailand in 1997. He visited Singapore and Thailand in 2001 regarding an International Power Engineering Conference Academic Assignments. He served Alemaya Univ., Alemaya, Ethiopia, Africa as Visiting Professor. He attended/participated workshops/seminar/conference in various fields like Accreditation of Engineering Institutions by National Board of Accreditation, Electrical Engineering Restructuring and Finances of Power Sectors. Several research papers are published in National/International Conferences and Journals.
