About the Book:
India's freedom movement is inextricably related to her constitutional development. The British rulers sought to make laws, one after, another so as to change their system of administration with the growth of Indian nationalist movement. In other words, they sought to adjust their colonial system with the growing demands of Indian nationalism as far as possible. While the government of India Act of 1858 replaced the rule of the company with the rule of the Crown, the Indian Council Act of 1861 inaugurated the 'policy of association'. The act of 1892 came as an improvement upon the same. Part I of this book contains addresses delivered by the Presidents on the occasion of annual meets of the Congress and Part II has important readings related to India's constitutional development.
