I bought this book thinking that since it is by the auther of "Time Traveller's Wife", it must be good. But no!!
The plot is good. The narration is in simple language. But there's no grip in the story. Its more of a fantacy trying hard to get near the real life but I'm afraid, Its a failure.
At the most, its a dedication by the auther to her job. She works in Highgate Cemetery and the book is full of the unnecessary and awkward details about the cemetery, which by the way doesn't even come close in relation to the main story-line. The characters are are unique but you can't picture them in your mind except Martin. The chemistry, love and devotion between Martin and Marijke is good and commendable and Imaginable but the rest of the love stories, either between Robert and Elspeth or that between Jack and Edie or even between Robert and Valentina, are poorly shaped and more of lust, social-peer-pressure, compromise RATHER than true passion.
I was not happy. Even the end is very abrupt without any proper conclusion. The depth in the charaterization is lacking.
It mat appeal to Londoners 'coz of so-much useless description of its lanes, shops etc!!
