This book is based on the common core revised syllabus (Engg. Physics-I and Engg. Physics-II) of U.P. Technical University. It explains in a simple and systematic manner, the basic principles and applications of Engineering Physics.
After explaining relativistic mechanics the book presents a detailed analysis of Physical Optics (interference, diffraction and polarization). In addition to topics on Electromagnetics, Magnetic Properties of Materials, Lasers, X-rays and Wave Mechanics, several new topics such as Ultrasonics, Superconductivity, Fiber Optics, Nanomaterials, Dielectrics have also been added. Recent technologies and developments have also been incorporated in the topics of Superconductivity, Fiber Optics and Nanomaterials.
After explaining the basic theory, the book presents a series of interesting experiments to enable the students to acquire a practical knowledge of the subject. A large number of questions and model test papers are also added.
Different chapters have been revised and more numerical problems as per requirement have been added. The book would serve as an excellent text for first year engineering students.
About the Author(s): Dr. S.K. Srivastava is Professor of Physics at IET U.P. Technical University, Lucknow. He is also working as Dean Academics. He had served as Secretary, Uttar Pradesh State Engineering Admission Test Cell. He is working as Convener of Board of Studies and RDC in UP Technical University, Lucknow. He has been involved in teaching B.Tech. students and supervising research projects for the last twenty-five years. He has also published more than eighty research papers and articles in reputed journals.
Dr. R. A. Yadav served MMM Engineering College, Gorakhpur as Professor & Head, Department of Applied Sciences. Presently, he is Professor of Physics in Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sitapur. He accomplished his M.Sc. (1965) and Ph.D. (1971) from the University of Gorakhpur. The present textbook is the outcome of his long teaching experience of about 42 years to engineering students. He has also contributed as a researcher in the field of Microwave Dielectric Relaxation Studies of Polar Liquids and Liquid Crystals and has published 25 research papers in reputed journals. He visited Edward Davies Chemical Laboratories, The University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, U.K. as a Commonwealth post-doctoral fellow during 1977-78. He was one of the coordinators for preparing the Question Bank in Physics of U.P. Technical University, Lucknow.
