  Beauty of Greek Island

  I love animals and any book or article about animals grab my immediate attention. So, “My family and other Animals” was an obvious read for me. I enjoyed a lot this wonderful book about the authors love for animals. This is written by Gerald Durrell in 1956. This book reveals Durrell’s happy and adventurous childhood with a perfect mother and lots of freedom. My Family and Other Animals book is the most funny book among all that I have read recently. The story takes us to the time when Gerald Durrell lived in Greek Island of Corfu. He describes the beauty of the Island. He introduces us with the seasons, flora and fauna and sea animals of the Island. In 1935, Durrell family of four children and a mother moved from cold, depressing England to Greek Island of Corfu. They stayed there for five years. Durrell describes his friends and family all so bright. The characters are funny people. As the story progresses, the readers are introduced to various interesting animals and insects that are found in the Island. He tells you about his thoughts and feelings, the silent conversations he has with himself or with his wildlife. The language is lovely. Hilarious moments come throughout the book. The whole family and the friends are jovial and so I think the title “My Family and Other Animals” is most appropriate for the book. While reading, you can experience the fun, excitement and laughter that Durrell had in his childhood with pets. I certainly recommend this book as its my favourite and it will definitely make you laugh aloud.
