About the Author : Dr. J.P. Mittal (b. 1943) currently working as a Reader in Education in the Planning, Programming, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the National Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi, is a professionally trained educational psychologist and holds the degrees of M.Ed., M.Phil (Edu.) and Ph.D. (Edu.) from the Universities of Allahabad, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Meerut respectively. Dr. Mittal has been engaged in major educational research projects at national level e.g. NIE-HEW projects on 'Achievement Motivation' and 'Wastage Stagnation' in primary and middle schools, IEA Study, Developmental Norms Project etc. besides undertaking several evaluation studies which were highly acclaimed by the Government and the user groups and affected changes in the educational research and development activities in witnessed in various reports brought out by the NCERT. Dr. Mittal's field of specialization and research interests in Teacher's Motivation to work and its implications for class room practices as may be seen through the present volume and similar other publications to his credit.
