About the book :
The third book in this genre-busting series is certain to enlarge Kinney’s presence on the bestseller lists, where the previous titles have taken up residence for the past two years. Kinney’s spot-on humor and winning formula of deadpan text set against cartoons are back in full force. This time, Greg starts off on New Year’s Day (he resolves to “help other people improve,” telling his mother, “I think you should work on chewing your potato chips more quietly”) and ends with summer vacation. As he fends off his father’s attempts to make him more of a man (the threat of military school looms), Greg’s hapless adventures include handing out anonymous valentines expressing his true feelings (“DearJames, You smell”), attempting to impress his classmate Holly and single-handedly wrecking his soccer team’s perfect season. Kinney allows himself some insider humor as well, with Greg noting the “racket” children’s book authors have going. “All you have to do is make up a character with a snappy name, and then make sure the character learns a lesson at the end of the book.” Greg, self-centered as ever, may be the exception proving that rule. Ages 8–12. (Jan.)About the Author :Jeff Kinney is an online game developer and designer and is the author of the New York Times bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. He spent his childhood in the Washington, D.C., area and moved to New England in 1995.

If you thought this is a diary of a wimpy kid and hence of juvenile genre, then you are in for surprise. I have just read this fascinating book and as an adult I have liked the book immensely.
This is the third book in the genre and is certainly one of Jeff Kinney's best. I have read his earlier two books as well. The situational comedy made special with cartoon characters brings the tale back to life. Greg has made a New Year resolution and intends to help people improve. The book takes you on a splendid journey of his life post the New Year`s and culminates with the summer vacation.
His attempts at improving people land him in trouble and he ousts himself (through his action) from the soccer team. It is interesting to note that Kinney humors himself, whilst taking about the pandemonium that authors go through. This is indeed a very good read and I have decided who I want to gift the book to. I highly recommend this book.
