Three Men in a Boat: To Say Nothing of the Dog! Book Description

One of the best-loved classics of all time, "Three Men in a Boat" is a hilarious account of three friends and their dog on a holiday trip on the Thames in England. Harris, George, Jerome (the narrator), and Montmorency (the fox terrier) decide to take a break from their tedious routine, to restore their 'mental equilibrium'. And so they take a trip on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford, making certain stops at interesting places, camping out, and inadvertently landing up in
comical muddles and misadventures.
Originally planned as a travelogue, this book turned into a literary classic, thanks to the narrator's humorous digressions, segueing into the historical background of some places. It is sprinkled with his own musings as they cross Hampton Court Palace, Monkey Island, Magna Carta Island, Marlow, little villages, and other known landmarks on the way.
The three men in the novel are based on real-life characters: Jerome himself, and his two friends, George Wingrave and Carl Hentschel.

About the Author :

Jerome K Jerome has contributed to Three Men in a Boat: To Say Nothing of the Dog! as an author. Jerome Klapka Jerome, author and playwright, is undoubtedly best remembered for the comic masterpiece Three Men in a Boat, though his talents were many and varied. Born on 2 May 1859 in Walsall, Staffordshire, he wrote and travelled widely. In 1927 he was made a Freeman of the Borough of Walsall before his death later that same year. He is buried in Ewelme in Oxfordshire.

    Best Humor Book

There has not been any book which is so simple, crisp and humorous ever written. This book is so very funny and written with so much honesty. Jerome K Jerome was one of best writers ever and is sadly not very well renowned. It is pity that present day Indian authors who write scrap each time they take pen are so praised.

    funny book

The science fiction novel is the most entertaining novel based on a trip of Jerome and his friends George, Harris. The book was published in 1886 but loved by all till date. The story centers on the three friends who are exhausted with busy life of London. They plan to go out for a week’s vacation. They decide to go on an Idyllic Cruise along London Thames River. They pack their food, clothes & the fictional dog, Montmorency, in a small boat and travel the country along the Thames. The three enjoy their journey a lot and also learn lessons. The story presents the events that happened during the trip truthfully and honestly. The book has hilarious comedy also. The story is narrated by Jerome K Jerome, the author. Jerome has written this book in a self-deprecating, and highly satiric tone. Jerome's style is masterful, and he uses it to create a strong sense of good humour. There are funny situations that are presented cleverly. Three Men in a Boat is an honest account of honest feelings which Jerome and his friends doubtless had. This is really one of the best books I re-read recently.
