"The Resident Patient"
After Mr Blessington knocked on his door, Percy Trevelyan's life was never the same again. Until then, he had been a struggling young doctor, desperate to get away from his squalid rooms. Then, out of the blue, this complete stranger offered him the chance to set up a practice in fashionable Brook Street. In exchange Trevelyan agreed to hand over three quarters of his earnings to Blessington. His benefactor also demanded constant medical supervision and installed himself at the house as "The Resident Patient". For two years the young doctor made Blessington a rich man. But lately his "patient" has shown alarming signs of fear for his own safety. And when a Russian father and son disappear during a consultation with the doctor, Blessington is beside himself with anxiety
"The Red-Headed League"
Mr. Jabeaz Wilsons attention is drawn to a newspaper advertisement by the Red-Headed League offering a handsome salary for nominal services. The only requisite is that the applicant should be a red-headed man! As soon as Mr. Wilson arrives at the given address for an interview, he is immediately selected! The services? Each day, from ten till two, Wilson has to copy out the Encyclopedia Britannica, using his own pen, paper and ink! But then, one day, after eight weeks, Wilson arrives at the League's office to find a notice tacked on to the door stating that the League has been dissolved! The bewildered pawnbroker makes for Baker Street armed with the original newspaper advertisement
