Brain Donor Description

Brain Donor was formed by Julian Cope and Spiritualized's Doggen in July 1999, in order to satisfy Cope's longterm urge to fuse Van Halenesque metal with garage rock. As early as his 1992 album Jehovahkill, Cope had asked Doggen - fresh from the Gun's'Roses Use Your Illusion demos - to contribute a speed-metal solo to the Krautrockstyled -Necropolis.- But Cope and Doggen's mutual fixation with Blue Cheer and early Kiss led them to go the final mile, complete with make-up and platform boots. The first show at the Queen Elizabeth Hall saw half the audience walk out, and new drummer Kevlar - also of Spiritualized - wondered what he'd gotten himself into. Since then, Brain Donor's two albums -Love Peace & Fuck (2001) and the Too Freud To Rock'n'roll, Too Jung To Die (2003) - have well illustrated Cope's description of the band as a -stuporgroup.- This new album on Mister E. conflates the first two albums into one -best of- in preparation for Cope and Doggen's next 'Donor album, to be recorded in San Francisco with Monoshock's singer/drummer Rubin Fiberglas.
