The X5 is BMW's exclusive presentation in the SUV category in India. However, BMW prefers to call it an SAV rather than an SUV as it is rather a crossover mid-size luxury 4WD car primarily for on-the-road sport.

The exteriors are wonderfully presented with long wheelbase and short overhangs. Powerful contours, bold lines and clean edges, and other eye catching features that enhance its dynamic present and highlight its unmistakable presentation.

The interiors are fine wood with selected leather and polished metal that exude an atmosphere of refined luxury. The inner cabin is spacious with enough room for the driver and occupants. In India, the X5 is available in three variants - eight-cylinder petrol, straight six cylinder petrol and eight-cylinder petrol engine.

The X5 has a highly responsive six speed automatic transmission that vastly improves comfort while driving. Additionally the double track control arms on the front axis and the low centre of gravity of the chassis offer enhanced stability. The Xdrive intelligently distributes power behind the front and rear axles.

Additionally, adaptive drive reduces body roll to a minimum and improves steering ability too. Yet another premium feature is the active steering that determines the speed of the vehicle and variates the steering angle in relation to the speed.

Majestic beast

It was great to purchase my third vehicle after my two earlier vehicles, a Toyota Innova and a Merc E class. So,
now I have to expand my garage. But before that I found time to squeeze in this review.

I did not feel the competition could do a great job in the city, but when I took a test drive on the BMW X5, I had
the answer to my problem. This is a fantastic diesel version with great sturdy exteriors and wonderful engine
performance. 19 wheels look great on this majestic beast.

It had great off road handling too, took it to my farm house, which needs me to drive on a 3 km dirt track. It was
superb here also. It also has very good comfort and safety features, so I am always feeling safe in it whenever I
take it along with me on long drives.

It's much better than the Mercedes or any other competitor. They simply stand no chance.
