It is the most compact car available in the Indian market. For many years, it was India's largest selling car, but it has now slipped to second place with another model Alto from the Maruti Stable now taking the lead.

Featuring a compact 4 gear manual transmission 4-stroke water cooled 800 cc SOCH engine, it delivers a maximum output of 37 BHP at 5000 rpm and 59 kg-m at 2500 rpm. Despite the compactness, it comes with a 28 litre fuel tank capacity, which is adequate for the Maruti 800 due to its high fuel efficiency.

With a seating capacity of 4 people, the M800 is capable of delivering an amazing fuel efficiency of around 18.7 kmpl on the highway, and 13.1 kmpl in city driving conditions, giving a respectable fuel economy of around 14.2 kmpl overall. Many owners have even reported higher fuel economy if the car is properly maintained and utilised.

The Maruti 800 comes with R-12 tyres as standard fitment. The front suspension is McPherson strut and coil spring, while the real is coil spring with gas filled shock absorbers. The steering is the standard rack and pinion, while the front brakes are disc type with the rear brakes being Drum type.

Standard electrical equipment consists of three-position cabin light, airflow controls, windshield washer, clear lens lamps, and clear lens rear combination lamps, and halogen bulbs.

The M800 offers comprehensive safety features like side impact beams, laminated windshield, additional body reinforcements, collapsible steering column, front and real seat belts, and head lamp levelling device.
