Maruti Gypsy Hard Top (Petrol)

Drive to your office in style in the Maruti Gypsy - India's most preferred car manufacturer. A Maruti car in India is an ideal family as well as personal choice any time. Spend a few minutes to read the New Maruti Gypsy Hard Top (Petrol) Review here.

The Maruti Gypsy is an all terrain Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that is specially designed for Indian conditions. Available in three different versions, hard top, soft top, and ambulance, it can take on any terrain be it the hills, desert, snow, or even congested city driving conditions.

It is the preferred vehicle of adventure seeking youth in India. At the same time, it is the standard transportation vehicle of the police and Indian paramilitary forces.

For driving in the hills, the Gypsy presents a higher ground clearance of 210 mm, thus providing better-off the road handling capabilities. Rough terrain is no problem. Because of its efficient diaphragm spring clutch, it is thus designed to withstand higher rotational speeds that one often encounters during driving in rough conditions. The engine presents high thermal conductivity, thus enabling cold starting even in extremely cold weather conditions.

Moreover, the 1300 cc petrol engine provides a lighter power to weight ratio. This provides more power and greater engine reaction. Additionally, the Gypsy's engine is capable of a maximum power of 80 BHP at 600 rpm, meaning great power, acceleration, and handling.

This feature along with a 4 wheel drive makes it easier to cross muddy paths and traversable streams. The Gypsy is also provided with a steering damper to ensure that the vehicle still remains in control even if it encounters bumps, potholes, or uneven terrain. Further, the lighter weight of the vehicle, which is below 1 tonne for the soft top and 1.02 tonne for the hard top is a major advantage that keeps the vehicle moving even in difficult driving conditions.

The Maruti Gypsy Hard Top sports Maruti's powerful 1298 cc SOHC naturally aspirated engine with MPFI fuel system. The engine generates good power and great torque, meaning great performance, handling and acceleration.

The Maruti Gypsy Hard Top delivers a good fuel economy of approximately 10 kmpl to 15 kmpl depending upon driving conditions. It has a fuel tank capacity of 40 litres.

However, the Maruti Gypsy Hard Top is low on frills and creature comforts like air-conditioning, power door locks, power windows, power mirrors, power seats, audio system with cassette and CD player and others. Also not included are safety features like antilock braking system, driver, passenger, front and rear airbags, child safety lock, central locking, keyless entry and anti theft system.

best SUV in India Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5

Hi Guys, this is Raghav from Ludhiana. I must tell you that go east or west, Maruti Gypsy (soft top) is the best. Don’t confuse yourself between any SUV, just head for the Maruti showroom and purchase the Maruti Gypsy.

Owning a Gypsy is definitely a matter of pride. I love the soft top version, because it gives me a lot of fresh air whenever I take this Gypsy outdoors into the deep interiors.

The Gypsy is really great with a higher ground clearance so it takes me virtually anywhere. Additionally, it’s a great all round vehicle that can take me anywhere including highways and the congested city traffic.

The engine is extremely powerful. I remember I went romping in the hilly areas with my Gypsy just after rains, and I had got stuck in a muddy path. It took some effort, but the Gypsy clawed out of the mud in a matter of a few minutes.

There’s one thing I want to confess, the suspension is rock hard. Guess you'll get used to it soon.

The Gypsy (soft top) is a vehicle you will absolutely LOVE! I purchased the Gypsy a few years ago, and I am still in love with it. The hard top looks a bit hard and official to the eyes, but the soft top is an absolute grace to drive.

If you have a freak about the outdoors with a care-a-heck attitude, the Gypsy is absolutely the right type of vehicle for you.

I must admit that it’s a bit difficult to get spares for the Gypsy in my town, but I am not sure if it is the same issue in the remaining cities.

Also, if you are not used to the suspension of the Gypsy (conventional leaf spring), then you might not appreciate the Gypsy in town, till you take it off roads!

Alternatively, if you are taking the Gypsy to the mountains and are afraid that the rocks will fall, the hard top is a good alternative.
