The Maruti Swift is a new kind of low slung, wide body compact car that is a bit European but a lot more Japanese. The diesel version is equally powerful with a thumping 1248 cc DOHC common rail engine featuring a fixed geometry turbo-charger with intercooler, thus providing a maximum power of 75bhp @ 4,000rpm and a maximum torque of 190Nm @ 2,000rpm.

The Swift envelopes more protective features with its advanced safety technologies like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and a brake assist function. All these minimise the driving hazards that prop up all the time on congested city roads, or while driving all the way on the highway. Furthermore, the crashworthy outer structure of the Swift along with a collapsible steering column and SRS airbags prevents the worst of the harm that could come in case of an impact or collision.

This feature which consists of a built in RF responder and an electronic authentication system provides owners with complete peace of mind. The Swift also comes with a headlamp levelling device with four levels of adjustment, thus allowing optimal illumination of the roads even with peak loads.

Additionally, the CANBUS system connects the microprocessor to real time situations, thereby providing instant response to unprecedented situations such as demand for more fuel during a rough ride, or instant deployment of airbags during a crash. The Automatic Climate Control (ACC) also handles demanding climatic conditions.

The Maruti Swift comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variants are the LXi, VXi, and the ZXi variants. The diesel variation includes the LDi and the VDi variants.

The Maruti Swift VDi diesel features Maruti's powerful 1248 cc DOHC naturally aspirated engine with CRDi fuel system. It features air geometry turbo charger with intercooler air charging system. It delivers good power and torque, meaning good performance, acceleration, and handling. The power unit is attached to a five speed manual transmission.

The Maruti Swift VDi diesel is the top level variant with ABS safety technology in the Swift diesel series. Loaded with comfort and safety features, this five-door hatchback is capable of delivering a fuel economy of around 14 kmpl and 18 kmpl depending upon driving conditions. It has a large fuel tank capacity of 43 litres.
