Tata has recently launched the Indigo CS series with four variants namely Indigo CS LE, Indigo CS LS, Indigo CS GLE, and Indigo CS GLS. The CS series is the shorter version of the existing Indigo models, so that customers can take advantage of the tax benefits available on smaller cars.
The CS series is available in two versions - 1.2 litre petrol and 1.4 litre diesel engine. Additionally each version has two variants. The petrol variant features the 1.2L MPFI engine while the 1.4L diesel version features the Turbo Intercooler Engine. The petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 65PS@5200 rpm while the diesel variant pumps 70 PS @ 4500 rpm.
Thereby both engine types deliver good power and excellent handling for most urban requirements. One of the main reasons that people may go in for this series is the affordable prices. Tata could have done better on the interiors especially with the base level variants.
The Indigo CS GLS is the upper level version with higher price in the Indigo CS range of Tata Motors. With a gracious boot space of 430 litres, this four door compact sedan has a seating capacity of five people. Under the hood, it is equipped with a 1.2L MPFI engine with a 32 bit microprocessor, which delivers a raw power of 65 PS@5000 rpm torque and a torque of 105 Nm@ 2500 rpm. The fuel tank of 42 litres ensures there is enough fuel before the car requires refilling.
The transmission is manual with five gears. The front suspension is the world famous McPherson struts with anti roll bar, whereas the rear suspension is the 3-link McPherson strut with anti roll bar. The steering is manual rack and pinion assisted steering with collapsible steering column. The front brakes are ventilated disc type and the rear brakes are drum type. Tyres are 14" radial and the wheel type is conventional steel.
Apart from air conditioner, this model does not feature remote locking, power windows, power door locks, Anti-Lock Braking System and other high end features.
I quite like the tata indigo CS. Ive seen 2 indigos being bought in the family and they have been high on value for money quotient. Tata lineage ! Looking for a new car that can match up. Came across the new Manza and booked a TD. But know very little about it as of now.
