The Tata Indigo petrol version is powered with an 85 BHP engine, while the diesel version features a turbo-charged engine with an intercooler. The Direct Injection Common Overhead Rail (DICOR) is based around a 1396 cc Direct Injection Common Rail 16 valve engine that features (DOHC) technology with a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). The DICOR delivers a maximum power of 70 PS at 4000 rpm along with maximum torque of 140 kg-m at 1800-3000 rpm.

The petrol version delivers a maximum of 85PS @ 5500 rpm with a maximum torque of 11 kg-m at 3000 rpm. The turbo charged diesel version delivers a 1405 cc Indirect Injection Engine that is capable of delivering a maximum power of 70 PS at 4500 rpm and a torque of 13.5 kg-m of 2500 rpm.

Additionally, the Tata Indigo comes with a range of features that are specific to India. The front seats have additional lumbar and thigh supports to provide more comfort during long distance drives. Further, the Indigo has a longer wheel-base of 14 compared to 13 bases in other standard C-segment competition.

Furthermore, the Indigo has more safety features that even surpass European Standards. Some of these characteristics are a fire-preventing inertia switch that reduces fuel leakage during accidents, rear safety belts, collapsible steering wheel, side-impact beams, and rear cum frontal crumple zones.

The Indigo V primarily comes with features like recirculation, air-conditioning, power door locks, power windows, grey bumpers, driver side OVRM, partial wheel cover, partial fabric lining, 2 spoke steering wheel, anti submarine front seats, high mounted stop lamp, child safety locks on rear doors and front/rear seatbelts.

November 2005, I bought this car and it might be the last time when i thought that buying Tata Indigo LS is the best deal in the car market. Coz right from the first year of its running i have been facing sevior kind of problems with this car, I am a mechanical Engineer by profession and usage of my car is not more then 2000 km/months. I got my car serviced on time and at the authoirzed dealer but it seems that either ppl at service center dosnt kno abt the servic or Tata has Left some hair line difference in the desiging of this car Engine. First i faced the starting problem in this car and got my ALternator changed n tht cost around 17000/- Rs. even after this problem was not sorted out and service center told me to get the Turbo charger repaired, fine enough i got tht, done but this time it has been really blunder the problem was same and they was unable to detect it, It rather appears tht they were expeimenting on my car even today after 65000 kM of my drive i face same kind of problem coz they have asked me to get the engine overhauled and it will cost around 1.2 Lacs which is wired kind of thinking and in between i hav faced the problem in Clutch, Break, Suspension & Tecometer also. SO please thousand times befor bying this car n better to learn from other's mistake rather doing at your own.
