In production since 2002, it is a luxury MPV available as a seven or eight seater. This vehicle was named after Alphard the brightest star in the constellation Hydra. The Alphard qualifies as an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV), achieving lower levels of emissions. In the year 2006 the Royal Lounge Alphard was introduced which is a luxurious, four-seat version of the Alphard. The Alphard mainly has two variants Alphard G and Alphard V. The all new Alphard240G however symbolizes style, elegance, technology and an unmatched panache which is unique to SUVs.

Toyota launched two minivans the Alphard and Vellfire. Though the two share a common aim of delivering impressive and high quality vehicle design, they are specifically designed so that the two models impart separate individual identities. It represents a clear cut evolution of excellent performance. Aplhard epitomizes elegance and style while its counterpart the Vellfire is power and innovation oriented.

The Alphard 240 G has a V shaped line stretching from the front pillars to the bumper. This adds vigor to the front mask; while the elongated large headlights and the horizontal bar grille give it a high-quality feel. The side view exhibits a sleek mono form silhouette rising from the front. At the rear you will notice a V-shaped line running from pillars. The solid bumper gives the vehicle a firmly grounded appearance.

The Alphard 240 G has five doors with a fuel capacity of 65 liters. The fuel type is Petrol. The SUV is four geared with the G and V versions having added equipment called Tresor Alcantara Version. The model is seen as an upper class corporate vehicle with rich interiors. It is trimmed with leather and wood. It has memory settings, and at the base model it has set engines with the system VVT-I, 2AZ-FE or 1MZ-FE and permanent total control.

Automatic driver seat and door mirror adjustment, comfortable heated seats with power leg rest, headrest and armrest. The reclining and long slide features of the rear seats facilitate a wider variety of seat arrangement.

The comforts like air-conditioning with built in humidity sensors, sound system with 18 speakers, Power Door Locks, Power Mirrors, Power Seat, Moon Roof, Sun Roof, AM / FM Radio, Cassette Player and Leather Seats are the common features. A 9-inch Video Graphics monitor screen which is activated by wireless remote control, provides a rich audiovisual environment.

The safety features include Antilock Braking System, Driver and passenger airbag with a child safety lock. Central locking system is however not present. This is the second generation Alphard with a more stylish exterior and luxurious interior.

This is an environmentally friendly SUV, as Toyota employed Eco-VAS (Eco-Vehicle Assessment System), to help in assessment and competent reduction of overall environmental impact throughout the vehicle's lifecycle, from production and use to disposal. A life cycle assessment was carried out to help the vehicles achieve a reduction of CO2 and other air contaminants.
