Stuttgart - The Board of Management of Daimler AG has appointed Martin Jaeger (43) as its new head of Global External Affairs and Public Policy. Jaeger, currently Foreign Office spokesman for the German Federal Government in Berlin, will succeed Robert G. Liberatore who left the Group at the end of March.

Martin Jaeger will take up his new post on September 1, 2008, and will be responsible for the company's global relations with governments and other political and civil organizations. Jaeger will report to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the Daimler Board of Management.

Jaeger began his career as a freelance journalist. After graduating in ethnology, philosophy and political science, in 1994 he joined the German Foreign Office where he held a number of posts, including a spell in the European Policy department, as speechwriter for the Federal Minister and as head of Cultural Affairs at the German embassy in Prague. From 2004 he was responsible for press relations for the head of the Federal Chancellery, and since 2005 he has been the spokesman for the Foreign Office and the German Foreign Minister.

Since Mr. Liberatore's departure, Dr. Dieter Spoeri, Corporate Representative for Federal Affairs in Berlin, has been temporarily acting head of Global External Affairs and Public Policy.
