ZF has been nominated for another important order from Nissan to provide six-speed automatic transmissions for a new light commercial vehicle, which will be designed and built specifically for the North American market. The transmissions will be produced in Gainesville, Georgia, and supplied to the Nissan location in Canton, Mississippi. Start of production is planned for 1st half 2010.

"The order from Nissan is a major success for ZF and confirms our strategy to intensify business with Japanese automakers,” states Wolfgang Vogel, member of the Board of Management of ZF and Group Executive of the commercial vehicle and special driveline technology division. “This opportunity furthers the excellent working relationship between Nissan and ZF.”

This will be the first automatic transmission which is produced by ZF directly in North America. Last year, ZF produced more than one million automatic transmissions for passenger cars, light trucks and commercial vehicles.

With this new model range for light commercial vehicles and the partnership with ZF, Nissan reinforces its activities in the North American market.

This nomination is an important milestone for ZF and the Gainesville area. The current Gainesville location has been supplying the automotive and off-highway industries since 1987. Since then, more than one million manual transmissions for light commercial vehicles have been produced in Gainesville. With 320 employees, ZF currently manufactures axle drives for passenger cars and light trucks as well as transmissions and axles for off-highway vehicles and construction machinery for customers inclucing Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, as well as John Deere, Tata, JLG, Bell, and Harlo
