VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Empire Electronics Inc. has been honored with a Visteon Important Partner Award for outstanding overall performance in providing products or services to Visteon Corp., one of the world's leading automotive suppliers. Empire, a Troy, Mich.-based supplier of electrical assemblies and components was recognized as a top Visteon supplier in the lighting commodities category during an Apr. 16 ceremony at Visteon's Corporate Offices and Innovation Center in Van Buren Township.

The Visteon VIP award program, now in its sixth year, honors suppliers that achieve best-in-class ratings for quality, delivery, technology, launch and cost-control performance. Empire was among 23 companies honored for their 2007 performance. "Empire has distinguished itself as an outstanding Visteon supplier in its product line, and their performance has been instrumental in helping Visteon deliver innovative, high-quality, cost-efficient products to vehicle manufacturers," said Patrick Bauer, Visteon senior director, material planning and logistics -- indirect and central purchasing.

Steven C. Doman, CEO, Chairman and owner of privately held Empire, attributes the company's selection as a Visteon VIP supplier to its customer-centric philosophy and proactive approach to supplier collaboration and innovation. "The Visteon VIP award reinforces our business strategy and the company's overall direction. We strongly believe that our customers are our No. 1 priority. We try to prove ourselves as early as possible in the business relationship. This strategy of taking a proactive approach with our customers is definitely the focal point in Empire Electronics receiving this important supplier award."

Edward G. Doman, president and chief operating officer of Empire, said in addition to offering cost-effectiveness and quality, the company brings a total value proposition to Visteon. "Instead of treating our Tier 1 customers in a traditional manner, we brought value-added and value-engineering solutions to Visteon resulting in significant cost savings without sacrificing quality. We did a complete tear-down of all their parts resulting in streamlining of components and re-engineering of products at a much lower cost. We also proposed to set up distribution locations to further support their efforts with OEM customers," Ed Doman said.

Of the 23 companies earning VIP awards, eight are based in the Asia-Pacific region, six in Europe, five in North America and four in South America, Visteon said. "Having a world-class supply base is critical to Visteon's ability to meet the technology, quality and cost needs of vehicle manufacturers around the world, and these 23 suppliers represent 'the best of the best,'" said Donald J. Stebbins, Visteon president and chief operating officer.
