Comprehensive Prep for the New GRE Math.
Every year, students pay $1,000 and more to test prep companies to prepare for the math section of the GRE. Now you can get the same preparation in a book.
Although the GRE math section is difficult, it is very learnable. GRE Math Prep Course presents a thorough analysis of GRE math and introduces numerous analytic techniques that will help you immensely, not only on the GRE but in graduate school as well.
Features:
* Comprehensive Review: Twenty-three chapters provide complete review of GRE math.
* Practice: Includes 164 examples and more than 600 exercises! Arranged from easy to medium to hard to very hard.
* Diagnostic Test: The diagnostic test measures your strengths and weaknesses and directs you to areas you need to study more.
* Duals: These are pairs of similar problems in which only one property is different. They illustrate the process of creating GRE questions.
* If your target is a 700+ score, this is the book!
This book is amazing!!!
I wouldnt have done well without it. I studied with Kaplan's math workbook And Kaplan is good, but it is pitiful compared to this one. This book covers way more things that ARE on the Gre that Kaplan did not. Also, it levels the questions so that you know what level question you are answering.. which is extremely helpful because you get a better look at the ballpark of questions you will be asked on the GRE. I am so thankful that I found this book... it was tremendously helpful! -Jaime Mae
This is definitely the pick of the MATH books available in the market today. It is for aspirants who wish to score in the 700-750+ range - and is especially useful for the engineering and computer science majors who are looking for excellent Quantitative scores. There are several interesting problems and the solutions are very detailed and easy to follow. The Geometry section is almost 20% of the book and is superbly explained and more than sufficient to crack the GRE. There is a section dedicated to tough quantitative comparisons with some excellent explanations and shortcut ideas.
This book is not meant for someone who is scoring below 500-550 in the diagnostic tests because the level of Math here is pretty high. If someone is scoring in the 500-550 range then I would recommend starting with Princeton Review and then working up towards using this book. NOVA is 500+ pages of challenging problems and the best strategy would be to buy this book at least a couple of months before the GRE and really spend some quality time poring over the book. It is unlikely anyone will get much out of this book if they don't spend the time doing the problems. The authors have done an excellent job putting this book together - they mention in the introduction that there are "no easy tricks" and "gimmicks" to crack the QUANT - it takes hard work but is very much doable - such honesty is rare in the test prep business where everyone is trying to market some quick fix.
End of the day - If you are comfortable with everything in this book then it is almost a near certainty that you will score at least above 700! Thank you Mr. Jeff Kolby for authoring a terrific study aid! -Partha Sarathy

Excerpts:
ABOUT THIS BOOK
Although the GRE is a difficult test, it is a very learnable test. This is not to say that the GRE is “beatable.” There is no bag of tricks that will show you how to master it overnight. You probably have already realized this. Some books, nevertheless, offer "inside stuff" or "tricks" which they claim will enable you to beat the test. These include declaring that answer-choices B, C, or D are more likely to be correct than choices A or E. This tactic, like most of its type, does not work. It is offered to give the student the feeling that he or she is getting the scoop on the test. The GRE cannot be "beaten." But it can be mastered—through hard work, analytical thought, and by training yourself to think like a test writer. Many of the exercises in this book are designed to prompt you to think like a test writer. For example, you will find "Duals.” These are pairs of similar problems in which only on" property is different. They illustrate the process of creating GRE questions. The GRE math sections are not easy—nor is this book. To improve your GRE math score, you must be willing to work; if you study hard and master the techniques in this book, your score will improve—significantly. This book will introduce you to numerous analytic techniques that will help you immensely, not only on the GRE but in graduate school as well. For this reason, studying for the GRE can be a rewarding and satisfying experience. To insure that you perform at your expected level on the actual GRE, you need to develop a level of mathematical skill that is greater than what is tested on the GRE. Hence, about 10% of the math problems in this book (labeled "Very Hard") are harder than actual GRE math problems.Although the quick-fix method is not offered in this book, about 15% of the material is dedicated to studying how the questions are constructed. Knowing how the problems are written and how the test writers think will give you useful insight into the problems and make them less mysterious. Moreover, familiarity with the GRE’s structure will help reduce your anxiety. The more you know about this test, the less anxious you will be the day you take it.
