About the Book

I knew there was nothing poetic about death. I knew not that the most horrific battles are fought off the battlefield. Arjun: The idealist in a non-ideal world; the warrior whose deadliest opponent was his conscience. History forgot his voice, but misquoted his silence. My self-esteem originates from me and ends in me.Why does your honor depend on me? Find your own. Draupadi: The untamed tigress, the fragrant flame, the unbridled spirit. Power does not justify sin. Power is not virtue. Virtue is that which lasts in spite of power. Krishn: The enigma whose unique ideology churned the battlefield into a quest for Truth. The Missile ....aThe Trajectory .... The Vision. The trio that makes for the core of The Mahabharata (Indian Epic).

The author’s look at Arjuna holds deep intimacy, at Krishna holds a searching question mark and at Draupadi holds worship. This is THE definitive voice of Arjuna, as he transforms from trusting innocence to assured confidence in his roller coaster life. The first person narration makes Arjuna’s ups & downs a personal experience for the reader. The man behind the warrior is discovered with fresh eyes as reader feels all Arjuna’s trials & trauma and gradually falls in love with him. He has some real nice quotes like - I would rather evoke envy than pity; Elders are just flawed people who happen to be born earlier; War doesn’t kill morals – it just kills the pretense at morals. DRAUPADI is 2nd speaker in this book – she is witty, mischievous, steely(If they cannot use seniority as a sword, they cannot use it as a shield), mature (I wish there was a weapon that could raze evil souls or erase evil from souls) and truly Krishna’s ‘bravest soldier’. How she inspires Arjun into turning Savyasachi via eklavya’s story, how she guesses Arjun’s feelings on battlefield by seeing his arrows is totally a new way of looking at this couple’s strong bond. KRISHN is not a god here. But his human form remains as impressive as ever and more loveable than ever, especially his silent tears on abhimnayu death, his helpless feeing on dwarka’s divided opinions. There are some xplosive dialogues , espeically kunti, yudhistir, karna, drona, bhishma get judged harshly. But the Exploring myths chapter at end explains many accusations in detail. I had to pause and reread many times to digest facts from this chapter but there are references to show the research behind it. It makes for disturbing read, but it does question old beliefs. Verdict – The book asks tough, uncomfortable questions and it gives believable answers. It makes you rethink popular myths with logic and references. It has humor, memorable quotes, tender moments and dramatic dialogues.

Engrossing, Analytical, highly recommended Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5 Rating of 5 out of 5

The authr's look at Arjun holds intimacy, at Krishna holds a searching question mark and at Draupadi holds worship. The first person narration makes Arjun’s ups & downs an intense personal experience. ARJUN the man behind the warrior is discovered with fresh eyes as one falls in love with him. His emotions are captured in detail and presented in vivid language. His passion for Draupadi, the warm bond with Krishn, his worship of Drona are evident. War scenes are brief, but correlate well with Arjun's distaste for bloodshed. The language is taut, there are beautiful quotes and deep conversations. Many popular beliefs are questioned, myths are unmasked and truths revealed - with full references and logic. Facts about Sanjay, Shalya, Karna, Shikhandi, Kunti & Yudisthir are shocking and well researched. Krishn is not god, but is as impressive as shrewd and wise. His silent tears at Abhi's death, his helplessness at Dwrka's opinions make him human and loveable. Draupadi is witty, mischievous as much as steely & mature. Her role in keeping alive Arjun’s legacy, how she inspires Arjun into turning Savyasachi via eklavya’s story, how she guesses Arjun’s feelings on battlefield by seeing his arrows is totally a new way of seeing their bond. FAVORITE scenes include draupadi-arjun’s first happy walk and their final sober walk together, their reunion after 8 years, krishn-draupadi talk before& after Subhadra, arjun-draupadi’s conversations which cover romance, archery, astras,Drona and their tug of love over krishna. Overall the book asks tough, uncomfortable questions and it gives believable answers. It gives a strongly emotional voice to Arjun. It makes you rethink popular beliefs & myths. It has humor, memorable quotes, bitter facts, tender moments and dramatic conversations. Definitely recommended.
