About the book
This book is divided into two parts: (i) Basic Civil Engineering and (ii) Basic Mechanical Engineering. The portion covering Basic Civil Engineering discusses several fundamental concepts related to the field such as surveying, levelling, determination of stones, bricks, timber, plywood, ceramic tiles, cement, mortar, concrete, building components and structures, foundations, brick masonry, stone masonry, beams, columns, lintels, flooring, doors and windows, roofing, surveying, highways, railways, and bridges. On the other hand, the portion covering Basic Mechanical Engineering delves into concepts such as power plants engineering, turbines, energy resources, pumps, and internal combustion engines. It also provides an introduction to mechanisms and basics of manufacturing and production technology.
About the author
S. Shanmugasundaram is currently working as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Structural Engineering at MPN MJ Engineering College, Chennimalai, Tamil Nadu. He graduated in Civil Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, in 1987, and has obtained postgraduation (ME) in Structural Engineering from the same institution. He possesses a vast experience of 23 years of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students and has guided several undergraduate and postgraduate projects. His major areas of interest include structural engineering, concrete technology, special concrete like self-compacting concrete, light-weight concrete, etc. K. Mylsamy, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Adhiyamaan College of Engineering, Hosur, obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering with Engineering Design as specialisation from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. His teaching experience spans more than 12 years. Currently, he is pursuing his Doctoral research on composite materials at Anna University, Chennai. He has to his credits four publications in highly reputed international journals
