About The Book
This book was originally written in German by Prof. Hermann Oldenberg. The original work was well-received in Europe by scholars, and the name of Dr Oldenberg was a testimony to it. Dr Oldernberg has rejected the sceptical theory of Solar Buddha, put forward by M. Senart. He has sifted the legendary elements of Buddhist tradition, and has given a reliable account of facts concerning the Buddha's life. He has examined the original teachings of the Buddha, and has shown the cardinal tenets of the pessimism which he preached are the truth of suffering and the truth of deliverance.
