Shepherd and the princess flee toward the eastern border but are captured by Kun Chan, a notorious opium warlord. Chan is entertaining a representative of a drug distribution cartel of Europe who is an undercover operative of the US Drug Enforcement Agency.The attempts by Shepherd, the Shan Princess and the DEA operative to escape from the clutches of Kun Chan provide for a suspenseful ending to the novel.
