About the Book :

The sacrifices made by our ancestors to ensure us sovereign democracy must be remembered especially by the younger generation. Eminent Indians: Freedom Fightersis an attempt to remind ourselves of the legacy of the brave, selfless and committed heroes who fought for Indias independence. It brings to focus their travails and tribulations that preceded Independence on 15 August 1947.
In addition to a comprehensive preface tracing, in brief, the history of the freedom movement, the book also contains the profiles of ten personalities whose sacrifices are worth remembering. Tipu Sultan who believed it was far better to live like a lion for a day than be a jackal for a hundred years; Veer Kunwar Singh, Bihars legendary hero who participated with Tatya Tope in the Battle of Kanpur; Tatya Tope, one of the greatest military leaders and a prominent figure in the tempestuous Revolt of 1857; Rani Lakshmibai, remembered for her pioneering role as a female warrior; Bal Gangadhar Tilak, known for his undaunted statement, Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it; Lala Lajpat Rai who inspired Bhagat Singh and other martyrs to take up cudgels against the British; Birsa Munda, the first tribal leader who led the freedom movement; Veer Savarkar, a great nationalist and freedom fighter who sought to reinstate Hinduism and reform Hindu society; Subhash Chandra Bose, the great revolutionary who fought valiantly for Indias independence; and Shyama Prasad Mookherji, the freedom fighter, educationist, cultural ambassador and a political leader. Eminent Indians: Freedom Fightersis a priceless collection of the lives of hardy Indians who lived a dream and gave their all to achieve it.
