Later, when she is partying with a friend at a nightclub, Clary witnesses someone named Jace murdering a man, which to her surprise is unnoticed by anybody else. Jocelyn finds herself abducted but before that manages to make a call to Clary and warn her about a person named Valentine. At home, Clary is attacked by a demon before Jace turns up and rescues her by slaying the demon.
Clary learns that both Jocelyn and Jace are Shadowhunters, who slay demons. To her horror, she finds out that she has inherited the Shadowhunter powers. Clary's life is threatened as the hunt begins in search of Mortal Cup. The Cup allows humans to become half-Angel Shadowhunters, which gives them control over both Shadowhunters and demons. As Jace takes Clary to the City of Bones to try to extract the location of the Mortal Cup from Clary's mind, they unravel a surprising connection between themselves.
Can Clary find out the location of the Mortal Cup and manage to stand up and defeat Valentine?
