Sir Charles Baskerville has become obsessed. The latest incumbent of the family home, Baskerville Hall, is haunted by a legend. Some 200 years ago, his ancestor Hugo De Baskerville was savagely killed by a huge, demonic hound. Since then, the giant dog is supposed to have haunted the family "to the general misfortune of the line".
Sir Charles believes he has heard the hound howling across Dartmoor. Even that he has seen it. Then suddenly Sir Charles is found dead in the grounds of the hall.
