World Cinema Boxset
Regarded as one of the most significant works in the history of silent pictures, as well as possibly Eisensteins supreme work, Battleship Potemkin brought his theories of cinema art to the world in a powerful showcase; his emphasis on montage, his stress of intellectual contact, and his treatment of the mass instead of the individual as the protagonist. The film tells the story of the Russian ship Prince Potemkin where a horribly bloody mutiny took place during the 1905 uprising. Eisenstein signals this as the jumping off point for the revolution. About Director One of the most influential filmmakers of all time, Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (January 23, 1898 February 11, 1948) made films which were distinctly Russian. A revolutionary film director and film theorist celebrated in particular for his silent masterpieces such as Strike, Battleship Potemkin and October, as well as historical epics Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible; he remains one of the intriguing subjects for film enthusiasts.
